End-of-Year Reflection: How VetSnap Revolutionized the Industry and Redefined Compliance in Veterinary Medicine

Let’s talk DEA compliance! 2024 has been a year of significant change within the veterinary industry, particularly in the realm of DEA compliance. Regulations are constantly evolving, and keeping up can feel like a full-time job. Recognizing this, VetSnap has consistently strived to stay ahead of the curve, providing innovative solutions that empower veterinary professionals.
To get the inside scoop on how VetSnap is revolutionizing the industry and see what’s changed this year, we sat down with Cecilia, Director of Partnerships and Sales, and Annie-Kate, Customer Success Manager, for an exclusive interview.

Challenging Traditional Approaches to Compliance

We began by exploring how VetSnap is changing the conversation when it comes to compliance. “VetSnap has incorporated education in compliance upkeep that wasn’t present in the veterinary community previously,” explained Cecilia. “Compliance was a very hush-hush, almost taboo topic, leaving many veterinarians uncertain about their responsibilities. This lack of open dialogue often led to fear of asking questions and inevitable lack of compliance, leaving the veterinary community in what felt like a lose/lose scenario.”
VetSnap has flipped the script by creating a more open and accessible environment for learning about DEA compliance. By providing robust free educational resources, including webinars, templates, and guides, VetSnap has empowered veterinarians with the knowledge and tools they need to understand and navigate the complexities of these regulations. “We’ve given the veterinary community a safe place to discuss compliance,” Cecilia continues. “This has led to a shift in acceptance and drive within the community to meet and exceed compliance expectations. Previously, veterinary practices often felt like the goal posts were always shifting. Now, they know the game, they understand the rules, and they are empowered to take control of their compliance.”

The Evolution of VetSnap’s Educational Offerings

“When we first started out,” Cecilia explained, “we knew that education was an important part of compliance, but we weren’t quite sure how to effectively share that knowledge. DEA compliance can be, let’s be honest, a bit dry. We needed to find ways to make it engaging and accessible for veterinary professionals.” VetSnap has since made significant strides in its educational initiatives. “We are the only compliance software company that is offering free educational webinars to anyone who wants to learn,” Cecilia emphasized. “Many of our webinars are now RACE approved, and we’ve transformed our presentations from simply reciting regulations to engaging and informative discussions that connect attendees with industry experts.” This, coupled with the recent launch of VetSnap EDU, a free educational portal offering a variety of compliance courses and resources for the veterinary community, has empowered veterinarians with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the complexities of DEA regulations.

Soaring Achievements in 2024

We later explored the milestones that VetSnap celebrated during 2024 by speaking with Annie-Kate, our Customer Success Manager.
“We had several launches throughout this year, namely our Hardware launch and the continued growth of our PMP Assistant add-on feature,” she shared. “Our reporting features have only become more robust this year as we have continued to prioritize feedback directly from the compliance experts within the veterinary community to ensure our hospitals are set up for success and over-prepared for future inspections/audits.”
“We are growing and making changes constantly to better the veterinary community,” Annie-Kate emphasizes. “Even though it can be difficult or a headache some days, we will never stop striving for newer and better solutions for our clients – new integrations, new resources, and new products. This year we have increased the frequency of software updates to roughly once a month, and with a goal to increase that in 2025 to ensure we can continue to hold up that standard for our practices”.

Our Clients = Our Best Contributors

“Where do these software update ideas come from?” we asked Annie-Kate. “Straight from our clients!” she exclaimed. “Every time we get a product improvement request/idea from one of our clients during demo meetings, trainings, or support tickets, every single idea is added onto a list, it is ranked based on how many people have requested that feature, and we have a product improvement team who fights for these ideas and works with our engineers to get them implemented. Some of our best feature releases have come from suggestions from our clients! It would be silly for a company to not listen to their customers, and we’re so happy that we are a small enough company that every clients voice is heard and prioritized in our software updates to make sure that this is not only just a DEA compliant logbook but that it is the efficient, and effective compliance solution they have been looking for!” This client-centric approach ensures that VetSnap continues to evolve and meet the ever-changing needs of the veterinary community.

Growing with the Changes

With all of this growth in mind, we asked Annie-Kate how VetSnap has refined its training processes. “We have drastically expanded our training and support materials provided to clients. We can now provide specific videos for troubleshooting, and just recently launched our first internal client focused webinar which will become a regularly recurring resource in 2025,” she explained. “VetSnap has grown so much this year, and our Customer Success Team has really perfected the best way to break down the information into bite-sized pieces and walk step by step hand in hand with our new practices to ensure we have a smooth transition and onboarding process for them.”
The team’s passion for improving the vet community is clear, especially when Annie-Kate spoke about the heart of VetSnap’s mission. “Our team is made up mostly of ex-veterinary professionals. We’re all passionate about improving the veterinary industry, and that drives everything we do,” she explained, “These are our teammates, our coworkers, our friends, our family. We want to continue to help them even if we can’t be right beside them in the field anymore.”

Some 2024 Success Stories

Annie-Kate told us some of her favorite heartwarming memories “After finishing a training session with a practice, they thought they had hung up, and I got to hear the practice cheering and hear their excitement and their relief at finding that compliance solution for their team,” she shared with a smile. “I know I personally worked extensively with a location who when they first signed up with us were a compliance project. They had not been logging previously, they had not upheld state PMP reports, and they were struggling and needed a solution. And now, I can honestly say they are one of our most successful and compliant practices.”
“We’ve gotten great feedback from our corporate partners as well!” Cecilia added. “Previously, it was extremely difficult for a corporate group or even just their regional managers to ensure that compliance was being maintained when you have potentially dozens to hundreds or thousands of locations across the country. VetSnap allows our corporate partners to keep a finger on the pulse of their practice’s compliance health.”

Looking Forward to 2025

Cecilia finished out our interview by promising that “Looking ahead to 2025, VetSnap is committed to continued innovation and excellence. We will continue to prioritize client feedback, invest in cutting-edge technology, and expand our educational offerings to empower veterinary professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of DEA compliance.”
VetSnap will continue to expand its integrations with popular practice management systems, making it easier for practices to seamlessly integrate compliance into their existing workflows. We are also excited about future collaborations with DEA consulting companies to provide even greater support and guidance to our clients on complex compliance issues. Even larger exciting new features are in the pipeline, designed to further streamline compliance processes based on one of the most common requests we hear. Stay tuned for more information in 2025!
